Meaning of "Baking Tradition"

Hi guys. I need your help. I'm translating an article and there's something I don't understand. The essay says "True to the old baking tradition, they made 13 children."
I have searched the internet but I couldn't find a decent meaning. Can you please help me?

I don't think it would be mentioned in an academic essay. I read somewhere else that it is a baker's measure.

I don't know what's the connection w measure and "making up 13 children" but knock yourself out.

I've found it. In the old days bakers used to add an extra unit to the dozen and making it 13. That's where this tradition came from. Thank you for trying to help.
