We have interviewed Christoph Janeba, Lenovo EMEA/ Product Operations Officer on the launch day of new Moto Z and Moto Play phones in İstanbul - Turkey.
His job is understanding the EMEA markets, including Turkey. We have asked the emerging trends and how he sees the consumers needs.
The main problem about today's mobile market is there are no big innovations. There is no great excitement about new features or designs. This is especially true when we look at feature phone market. In the past years there were great phones with big design innovations. Nowadays it's all about specs and streamlining the design. So, no big surprises, no real new stuff.
So Lenovo focused on Moto Mods to add exicitng stuff to their phones. Snap on battery pack, snap on camera and of course sound.
Metal construction and keeping the phone thin, streamlined with new CPU's are the main engineering and design challenges. Moving beyond that there is software side to phones. So they are working on the announced Android version update and security updates.
We asked if Lenovo sees their phones as they see their laptops. Like seperating gaming, multimedia and business computers. But they don't see a brand or image difference in phones depending on use.
We also asked about Moto Mods longevity. Because there are a lot of new models. The answer we recieved was simple, phones change but Moto Mods framework won't change that easily. So we can expect mods to work on multiple generation of phones. Of course there is no brand guarantee on this feature or longer support cycles.
