Hi and sorry for writing in English on your board but I saw you guys created a whole thread about Intel+NVIDIA Freeze due to Windows 10 Creators Fall Update and NVIDIA Optimus.

I think I am having the same issue as you describe, but with my Lenovo Legion 5 15ACH6H. Basically when I am clicking on some Windows 11 UI interface (RMB on desktop, Wi-Fi/speaker/battery icon, locking account, shutdown button) I get a 0.5 second freeze. This only happens after I install AMD GPU drivers. The issue also disappears if I turn off Hybrid Mode (it turns off iGPU).

The issue looks like this:

Because of that I want to ask you guys if the Intel+NVIDIA issue was really fixed, or was it fixed partially like the thread suggests, or did it return recently for Intel? I wrote a New thread for this issue because the Intel One was closed some time ago.

I would really appreciate any information (in Turkish or English) if the issue is present on other laptops with AMD+NVIDIA GPUs and/or if the issue was fixed on Intel One S.

First of all welcome to Techopat. Did you uninstall both drivers in the safe mode via DDU?
If you don't please do it and install WHQL drivers. If you do both of them, we'll try some other fixes.
Do I understand right, this problem occurs on battery?
Also sorry because of my grammar 😅

Hi! Thank you for your answer. Your English is great! Don't worry about the language, it's not my native language either (I'm from Poland).

I did try DDU yes. I also tried installing Lenovo Certified drivers first, then when they didn't work, I tried NVIDIA's and AMD's official drivers after DDU. Unfortunately the issue appears the moment I install AMD drivers, no matter the version.

There are actually two issues, both caused by NVIDIA Optimus:
1. When on iGPU (AMD), I have 0.5 freeze of the entire OS when clicking on certain things (RMB on desktop, clicking on wifi icon in the taskbar, locking account etc). This one happens on both battery and when plugged in. This issue is exactly the same as the Intel+Nvidia issue reported by this community years ago.
2. I get stutter every 10-20 seconds. This one happens ONLY on battery, but isn't related to any particular GPU. It just happens either on AMD or on NVIDIA, but never on both during same session. This one seems to be a new issue, but also related to Nvidia Optimus, since it happens only when Hybrid Mode is turned on.

Worth noting is that the same issue is present on other Lenovo Legion 5 laptops and I also noticed there are threads on other manufacturers' boards about the same issue, eg. HP.

To be honest, I don't know what causes that freeze. If it's not a driver problem, it could be a problem with Windows 11. Windows 11 is not that stable, so you can try Windows 10.

Can you try old WHQL AMD drivers for that stutter issue? Also, what do you mean by "Hybrid Mode"? Is that MUX Switch or something else? If none of that solutions works, I'm out of solutions.

Hey @Recep Baltaş! Can you help this guy?

Hi, yeah indeed the Hybrid Mode is basically a MUX Switch, just with a fancier name.

I tried older AMD drivers, although from Lenovo site (as apparently they should be "more stable"). There's honestly no difference. Interesting thing is that those UI stutters appear the moment I install AMD drivers. They don't appear if I use Microsoft's display driver, but then I cannot use any of the features AMD provides.

Is there any software that conflicts with AMD drivers? That's weird. Is there any "bloatware" that shipped with PC? Or something we can suspect? Can you watch the GPU usage while you installing AMD drivers? Maybe we can find that software...

The laptop is very clean, when I turned it on the first time it just let me create account etc. I think the OS was installed and nothing else was done on it. It only has the most basic drivers installed from Lenovo's site and nothing more. And of course basic Windows Update updates for drivers and OS.
It also went to Lenovo Service and they reinstalled entire OS and installed only basic drivers needed. It didn't help the issue.
The more interesting thing about it is that I reached a guy on Discord who has same laptop model and he actually has same issues.

I'm not really sure how we can watch GPU usage. Considering the laptop gets its stutters once AMD GPU drivers are installed I'd say it is just some compatibility issue with display drivers.

Windows 11 is currently unstable. AMD and NVIDIA's drivers may also be causing problems with Lenovo Legion 5 for this reason. Have you ever thought of installing an updated Windows 10 21H2? Also, have you contacted the place of purchase about this issue?

Can you install Windows yourself? Some of the OEM software can cause issues like this. Also install the GPU drivers from the manufacturer, not from the Lenovo.

I am considering installing Windows 11 or even Windows 10 if it comes to it, although I'd like to first try and see if it can be fixed without entire OS reinstall. I did check what was installed on the OS after it returned from Service and honestly, it's not much. They just installed AMD IO & VGA drivers, Audio drivers, Bluetooth drivers, Camera drivers, card reader driver, LAN driver and Wireless card drivers. Apart from that they also added Legion's own Power Plan modes and Lenovo Vantage application, which is used to switch between cards. Other than that the laptop was clean.
Before Lenovo Service Windows 11 had nothing at all. Everything was downloaded from Windows Update.

I am especially wondering if people with laptops from other brands (eg HP) but with similar setup (AMD+NVIDIA+Advanced Nvidia Optimus) suffer from same issues when MUX switch is off.
