Update: Problem solved, new release out.

Iomega just discovered an issue with the latest version of firmware for our StorCenter NAS (version 3.2.3.7364).

When dragging and dropping files to the StorCenter NAS using CIFS protocols, there is a possibility that additional spaces will be added to the file. This bug has two affects:

  • It will create a larger file on the NAS than on the client computer
  • Checksum comparisons will fail.

In our testing, the actual files are usable, but behavior of the file may depend on the application used.
This issue does not affect all file transfers – files copied to the StorCenter from a client PC using copy jobs or backup programs like Quik Protect are not affected. This issue affects files manually moved to the device using "drag and drop" directly to the NAS. This bug may also occur when using copy jobs between two remotely-located NAS units.

  • If you have not yet applied the 3.2.3 update to your device, Iomega recommends waiting for the patched version of software.
  • If you have already applied the update, avoid dragging file to the device. If you have used drag and drop to copy files after updating to 3.2.3, please delete those files and use a copy job from the original file on the client computer. You can also use another protocol to copy. Contact Technical Support if you need additional assistance.
We expect to have this bug resolved very soon, and will contact you when an updated patch is available.
