C27HG70 comes with HDR and FreeSync 2, in this monitor review we take a close look to all aspects and new technologies of Samsung's new Curved Gaming monitor.
Video Review: CHG70 - C27HG70 Curved Gaming Monitor
Cons: Not much HDR content out yet, Microsoft should patch W10, Vega is not out yet for full Ultra Quality 144 Hz gaming, USB ports are hard to reach, cable management is not too easy.
Even if there is not much HDR content out there, and we are still waiting for AMD Vega, this monitor with HDR and FreeSync 2 is a really good. Even without using FreeSync or too much HDR content the technical capabilities and image quality as well as speed of C27HG70 makes it an excellent gaming monitor.
Would we buy it? It is enthusiast class and yes, because when enabled we loved the HDR and all around user experience of the monitor in any game and media we have played and consumed. If you want it fast and if you want it colorful, you have it along with newest technologies in gaming monitors.

Video Review: CHG70 - C27HG70 Curved Gaming Monitor
- 00:05 - 27 inch model of CHG70 series is C27HG70.
- 00:22 - Tech specs:
- 144 Hz refresh rate, 1 ms MPRT response time, 10 bit VA panel with Quantum Dot technology.
- %125 sRGB and %95 DCI-P3 color gamut.
- 3000:1 static contrast, 600 cd/m2 luminance. 108.8 PPI, 0.2335 mm2 pixel pitch.
- 01:10 - FreeSync 2: What does it bring: LFC is enforced as well as fast HDR support.
- 01:48 - What does HDR mean and what does it bring?
- High Dynamic Range brings 10 bit color, very high and very low brightness.
- 02:37 - Where does HDR stand in gaming? The difference between old HDR effect and new HDR.
- 03:23 - Design: Stand and monitor.
- 03:35 - Curved: 1800R but what does it mean?
- R is Radius, you can put monitor side by side until you get a full circle. 1800 mm is the radius. Lower the number, the more curved screen gets. Samsung is ahead in this curve race at the time of review.
- 03:50 - Color and LED lighting.
- 04:10 - Cable cover.
- 04:15 - OSD control joystick.
- 04:21 - Quick buttons.
- 04:25 - Tilt, swivel, height adjustment and pivot etc.
- 04:40 - Side view of curvature. Panel may look shiny but actually it is medium matte. The studio lights are too strong and curvature makes it look glossier than it actually is.
- 04:45 - Lock.
- 04:50 - Full model info: LC27HG70QQKXKR. This model is from Korean market.
- 04:55 - Input, output ports.
- 05:05 - 2 HDMI ports, they are HDMI 2.0. 1x DisplayPort and it is a DP 1.4 port.
- 05:20 - Power in, USB B (USB in) 2x USB 3.0 extension ports.
- 05:36 - Sound and service ports. Since there is no internal speaker we had to plug in a portable speaker and we have checked these ports too.
- 06:14 - 100 Watt adapter.
- 06:31 - Montir standing and working with proper cable management.
- 06:45 - HDR gaming tests with PS4 Pro. We start with Resident Evil 7 Biohazards.
- Also check our mini guide to enable HDR in PS4.
- 07:35 - No Man's Sky is good example for rich colors and light.
- 08:25 - Windows 10: Welcome to Microsoft bugs.
- We are using latest version. When you enable HDR support, colors are washed out, greyed out. This is a documented bug waiting a fix from MS. It doesn't effect gaming, games enable HDR themselves and it certainly has nothing to do with HDR TV or monitor model.
- 09:35 - Mass Effect Andromeda is another game with HDR. While demo is playing we are talking about technical specs and FreeSync 2.
- AMD also moved HDR mapping step to GPU, cutting the middle man/middle step in the process, enabling fast HDR gaming with their GPU's and FreeSync 2.
- 11:30 - 2560x1440 is a very good middle step between FHD and UHD for gaming and multimedia.
- 12:00 - Different viewing angles: VA panel performs quite well. In comments many people asked if C27HG70 is TN, no it is IPS type VA panel.
- 12:23 - Shadow Warrior 2: HDR support.
- HDR effect in old games is just a lighting effect in game graphics. But new HDR technology is an entirely different technology. We go on explaining color standarts other differences.
- 13:56 - Upper and lower limits for FreeSync 2: There is a problem here, we will check. It seems in drivers the range is 80-144 but as we are explaining in the video FreeSync 2 should enforce LFC. We will update.
- 14:40 - OSD menu and options. Black Equalizer and other settings.
- 15:41 - FreeSync Standart Engine and Ultimate Engine. For LFC use UE, if you encounter problems in a game just return to NE.
- 16:35 - Local Dimming: Enable this. It gives you a noticable improvement in picture quality.
- 17:10 - HDMI and DisplayPort versions and cable choice.
- 17:54 - Light bleed and panel glow check.
- 18:22 - Pros and cons.
