Every time a mosfet switches on or off it goes through a brief phase of being partially on, in that phase it generates substantial amounts of heat.
It goes through that phase very fast, but the faster you're switching it the more times it goes through that phase in a given amount of time, and hence the more heat is put out.
As to the vcore output, the higher the frequency the mosfets are switched at the less time the inductors and capacitors have to discharge and the smoother the voltage put out is, up to a point.
