How to Identify Bad Sites:
General notes on how to avoid downloading from and dealing with fake and malicious sites that can potentially give you malware.
- Scene Names: Sites that are named after scene groups are fake. Scene groups do not have official websites and do not do announcements on public sites. While such sites might provide clean files, their purpose is usually to trick you and to profit from it.
- Uploader Reputation: When downloading from torrent sites, try to download from trusted uploaders. People can still upload fake and malware on sites that are regarded as safe.
- Torrent client: There are many torrent clients to use for downloading your torrents, qBittorrent and Deluge are good.
- Ads and Tracking: Use an adblocker (such as uBlock Origin or Adguard) when visiting any of the websites. You can also use JDownloader 2 to grab links from most of the sites automatically, without having to browse them and download parts one by one.
- Be Safe: After downloading, you can always scan the game/setup executable on VirusTotal or similar services to be safe.
- Brain.exe: Use common sense.
